Greg Apps

Greg has had an impressive career starting as a lead actor in the mid seventies. His first screen role was Sunday Too Far Away followed by Brad in the original production of Rocky Horror Show. He assures us that his legs look good in fishnets to this day – though he is reluctant to provide photographic evidence!

From the early eighties he started casting and quickly built an impressive resume firstly with the ABC and then under his own banner Prototype Casting.

Greg is celebrating 50 years in the industry this year.

For seven years, Greg was on the Board of the Australian Film Institute with responsibilities in production committee of the annual AACTA awards as well as a long term member of the finance sub committee.

In 2015, Greg helped set up the Casting Guild of Australia and was then voted in as the inaugural President of the board. In this position he established the first casting industry awards in the country. He also established ‘the CGA ‘Rising Stars’, an actor’s award showcasing Australia’s finest up and coming talent to the international stage.

He was listed in the mid naughties as one of the 20 most influential people in the Australian Film Industry in IF Magazine

Greg’s casting credits extend far and wide having worked in Australia, LA, Argentina, New Zealand, PNG and the Torres Strait islands; working with several studios and production companies including Paramount Studios, Netflix, Focus Features, Warner Bros, Marvel, Universal Studios, Summit Entertainment and James Cameron Productions.

In his time as a Casting Director he has provided the career break through roles for Russell Crowe, Eric Bana, Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, Jacquie McKenzie, Rachel Griffiths, Rhada Mitchell, Geraldine Hakewell, Alex Russell and too many more to mention.

Greg has various producer credits throughout the years as well as Executive Producer on ‘Face to Face’ with Michael Rymer, which was awarded ‘Best Film’ at multiple film festivals worldwide.

He has a number of film projects on his production slate and still is actively casting today.

Just in this last year of 2024 he has cast four major film projects such as Take My hand, SPIT, RUR and The Way My Way.

In the last 10 years he and his partner established The Audition Technique an online portal supporting actors in their careers.
