J'aimee Skippon-Volke
J’aimee has been working with the Byron Bay International Film Festival (BBFF) since its inception in 2005 – stepping into the Festival Director role in 2007. Over more than 19 years, she has led BBFF’s growth into one of Australia’s most respected regional film festivals, with a positive reputation amongst filmmakers world-wide, showcasing not only innovative cinema but also pioneering immersive and XR experiences. She has helped position BBFF as a champion of both local and global filmmaking talent - creating opportunities to celebrate the work of both established and emerging filmmakers.
With a background in Film & TV, J’aimee’s experience spans across production, curation, and audience engagement. Her passion for technology and storytelling led her to develop BBFF’s XR program, which included Australia’s first Federally funded VR arts initiative. She was the driving force behind Make Diversity Reality, an XR accelerator program focused on supporting women and people from diverse backgrounds in the tech industry.
As a curator and creator of large-scale events, J’aimee’s vision continues to inspire as she builds on BBFF’s legacy, bringing together cutting-edge cinema, immersive experiences, and community engagement. Her proven track record of supporting filmmakers both as business people and creatives has made her a trusted and respected leader in the field. Deeply connected to the Byron Bay community, J’aimee ensures BBFF remains a platform for local stories while fostering global connections. Her vision and dedication continue to shape BBFF as a vital hub for independent voices and boundary-pushing creative expression.
