Writer, Filmmaker
Nico Lathouris
Nico’s career spans over 50 years, encompassing over 300 screen hours across film, television, and new media forms, ranging from acting (with 2 AFI Award nominations) to directing and screenwriting, from tentpole feature films to avant-garde theatre. The foundation of Nico’s dramaturgy involves liaising for the drama with producers, writers, directors, designers, and actors. It connects the highest concept of ‘action’ across the spectrum of drama as art, science, and ethical practice.
His most recognised work includes a twenty-year collaboration with Kennedy Miller Mitchell as a dramaturg and screenwriter on the Mad Max suite of action-drama features including Fury Road and Furiosa.
Nico’s commitment to the evolution of dramaturgy and immersive multimedia interactive narrative predates the Internet, beginning with the Ulrike Meinhof Project, a ten-year experimental multimedia endeavour involving film, performance art, and music featuring hit-and-run performances in various venues.
He has several films in development (The Mediation, Universal Machine) and two feature films awaiting production: The Reunion (co-writer Linda Royal) and The Baker (co-writer Ronny Mouawad). For the past twenty-five years, he has been developing a long-form multiplatform screen project, Shifted, with various producers, writers, artists, and software developers.
