Tosca Looby
Tosca is a writer and director of factual films and series including the Rose D’Or nominated feature Strong Female Lead, about the treatment of Australia’s only female PM. In 2021, her series See What You Made Me Do, tackled the subject of domestic abuse in Australia. It won a slew of awards and drew the largest ever audiences to SBS factual programming. Most recently, her five-part series, The Jury: Death on the Staircase, has melded factual and drama by recreating a true manslaughter trial in real time for a jury of ordinary citizens. By following the jury deliberations, we learn what justice ‘by and for the people’ truly looks like in the otherwise secret confines of the jury room.
Tosca has won a Walkley Women’s Leadership in Media award alongside Jess Hill for their work on Asking For It, a three part series for SBS about sex, power and consent.
For 2025 Tosca has started work on a three-part ABC series with journalist Hamish Macdonald, which will take them around the globe.
Tosca works with Sydney based production company Northern Pictures.
