From early morning calls, to wrangling extras; this panel of industry professionals will share what life is really like on set. Perfect for students and workers looking to transfer into the industry.

Helen O'Loan

Helen O'Loan APDG is an Australian Production Designer with a background in Art Direction & Set Design. Most recently she designed the Nike / FIFA Brasil TVC campaign, ‘a playful romp set at a hotel that's been taken over by members of the Brazilian National Women's National team’.

Earlier in 2023 she designed ‘Mother of the Bride’ , filmed South East Asia and set in an exotic ultra-lux resort featuring an ensemble cast including Brooke Shields. Other recent credits include the internationally distributed TV series ‘Black Snow’ a crime fiction series set in a small rural town in Far North Queensland for which she has earned an AACTA nomination for 'Best Production Design in Television', and the suburban black comedy feature film ‘Audrey’ which will premiere at 2024 SXSW. Her expertise and approach developed in the Art Departments of Oscar, BAFTA, AACTA and ADG winning Art Departments (The Great Gatsby, Unbroken, Pirates of the Caribbean, Chronicles of Narnia, Peter Rabbit). She also has extensive experience in the field of advertising and has designed countless commercials and both permanent & temporary installations. She is adept at articulating and delivering both character and narrative driven nuanced spaces and also stunningly bold visuals that underpin key themes in the story. 

Moderator: Darren Fisher

Darren Paul Fisher is an international award-winning screenwriter, producer and director and Head of Film, Screen and Creative Media at Bond University, Australia. In 2018, he was the recipient of the Screen Queensland/Australians in Film Greg Coote Scholarship, awarded to screen practitioners with a successful track record of creating compelling drama for the screen.

Darren wrote, produced and directed the hit sci-fi mystery feature Frequencies, which won a multitude of festival awards before a global release to rave reviews, including those in The New York Times and The Hollywood Reporter.

Darren works across both film and television, and is currently developing a television series with TAP/NBCUniversal. Feature film projects include creature-feature horror-comedy Claws for Todd Fellman/Story Bridge Films.

Darren made his debut writing and directing the British teen comedy Inbetweeners for Universal. He holds a PhD in mainstream narrative feature filmmaking, and is currently completing a book on screen storytelling entitled Film As Argument, due for publication later this year.
